New Leaders 

 

How Do I Become A Camp Fire Leader?

Camp Fire club leaders must fill out a program volunteer application and attend training in order to become a leader.

 

Fill Out the Volunteer Application and return it to the Camp Fire Office at 1603 E. 38 ½ Street, Austin, Texas 78722 or Fax (512) 220-2360. This paperwork must be submitted to the office andd approved before volunteer service begins.

Program Volunteer Application  

 The application must be fully completed, signed and returned to the Camp Fire office
Background Check   This form authorizes Camp Fire to perform a background check on you. 
3 Personal Reference Forms  This form is used to collect personal references. Fill out the front only and return it to the Camp Fire office. 

 


Create a club where participating members submit the following forms:

Annual Registration  The registration form must be filled out for each non-related member of your club. A family can use one form to register the whole family. Individual price is $15 / Family price is $30. 
Release of Liability Families may turn in one per family with additional family members signing on the bottom of the form. 
Medical Form  Medical Information forms must only be submitted if the club is participating in one of the outdoor clubs. (This is a change from previous years) 
Fees or Scholarship Application  There are both partial and full membership scholarship available.  Anyone is welcome to apply.

 Register the club with the Camp Fire Office with the following form:

Club Registration Form  This from should be filled out by the club leader once you have collected membership forms listed above.  It can also be used as a tracking sheet to determine who has turned in what paperwork before it comes to the office.

Training Requirements

 Leaders are required to participate in the trainings listed below. 

 

Essence of Camp Fire On-line Training 

 This training module explains what Camp Fire is all about plus some history of the organization. (Approximately 30 minutes long).  Click Here to register for a COMPASS account and start the training.

 New Leader On-line (On-line Training) This training is the nuts and bolts of how to organize a club. (Approximately 2 hours long).  You must complete the Essence of Camp Fire before doing the New Leader On-line training. New Leader Training (Council)  This is hands-on training specific to the Balcones Council. You will learn about our requirements, forms, guidelines and other items specific to our council.
 Outdoor Training (Council) This is a hands-on training that prepares you to take your club on their first campout.  We talk about the health and safety concerns in the outdoors.  We also practice cooking a Dutch oven meal over a fire.  Each club must have at least one person who has attended outdoor training at each of the club and council campouts for which they are participating.
 Program Level Training This training covers the specifics of the curriculum at each of the different program levels.  All new leaders, along with any leaders moving up to the next level should attend this training.
 CPR and First Aid Training You may receive CPR and first aid certification from any reputable organization.  Leaders can take this course with an organization of their choice.

Attire and Uniforms 

There are both formal  and informal uniforms.  On formal occations, adults should wear a Camp Fire polo.  Youth wear a white polo or turtleneck with a sash or vest.  Discovery and Horizion youth wear the same polo as adults. Traitionally, khaki or navy bottoms are worn. On casual occations, a Camp Fire t-shirt is worn.
